Morgan Dollar
Peace Dollar
Common silver dollars are another type of semi-numismatic coin that can be used for investment in silver. They are available in 3 types: the Morgan Dollar, which was minted from 1878-1904, and again in 1921, the Peace Dollar of 1921-1935, and Modern Commemorative dollars, minted since 1983. They are coins consisting of 0.900 fine silver, and are available at several price levels. They carry a modest numismatic premium, and the premium varies according to the type of dollar and the amount of circulation wear it may have on its surfaces.

Please note: Silver dollars do NOT contain 1 oz. of silver. When newly minted, they contain 0.7734 oz. of silver. Circulated coins contain less, of course.

Silver dollars may be purchased in odd numbers, or they are often packaged in bags of 1000 coins, or half-bags of 500.

Cull Dollars - Culls may be Morgan or Peace Dollars which are well-worn and/or damaged, or otherwise imperfect (e.g., harshly cleaned, discolored, foreign matter). Culls are an economical way to purchase silver dollars, as they have the lowest premium to bullion value.

Morgan Dollars - available in several ways. Pre-1921 Morgans may come in grades VG (Very Good), F (Fine), VF-XF (Very Fine to Extra Fine), or AU (About Uncirculated - very minimal wear). Pricing is higher for higher grades, as coins contain more silver as they rise in grade. 1921 Morgans usually come in VG-XF (Very Good to Extra Fine), or AU. 1921’s have a slightly higher premium than the pre-1921 coins.

Peace Dollars - these are available in grades VG-XF, at one price, or for a slightly higher price, AU.

Modern Commemorative Dollars (1983-present)
These dollars are almost never circulated, so they contain their full original amount of silver. Surprisingly, they have a slightly lower premium than some of the circulated older dollars. They will be delivered in protective plastic capsules.
