American Silver Eagles are popular coins for investment in silver. They consist of one ounce of 0.999 fine silver, and the obverse design of the coin is based on the beautiful Walking Liberty half dollar, which the United States minted from 1916-1947.

The most common type of Silver Eagle is the uncirculated (BU) version. This coin carries a modest premium above its bullion value. The premium will fluctuate according to demand for the coin. Uncirculated Silver Eagles may come in either mixed dates, or in solid-date rolls of 20 coins each.

Proof Silver Eagles are struck by special dies, which leave the coin with a sharply reflective mirror surface. Proof Silver Eagles are the only silver numismatic coin (collector coin) authorized by the U. S. government for inclusion to precious metals individual retirement accounts (IRA’s). They are packaged individually in protective capsules, with a presentation box and certificate of authenticity. As collector coins, proof Silver Eagles have a much higher premium than the uncirculated version, but they are popular with IRA investors.
